When Dick reveals himself to be Robin to an old family friend from Haly's Circus, the friend in question asks Dick "if Bruce Wayne knew" that he had found himself a vigilante alter ego. In fact, Episode 6 of Titans - "Jason Todd" - tries to make that argument itself. One could argue that Dick Grayson's role as Robin isn't quite enough to indict Bruce Wayne, as well. Since Batman and Robin are famous for their arsenal of fast cars, expensive equipment, and father-son dynamic, if any one of the characters had even Google-ed 'Dick Grayson,' his reveal as Robin should have been met with a chorus of slapped foreheads, as each and every one of them connected the two dots into a clear, straight line. The sidekick to Batman who, in recent years, has apparently decided to leave Batman behind and head off on his own to suddenly also appear in Detroit, beating up criminals. Dick Grayson, the cop with a chip on his shoulder who, for some reason, has decided to leave his billionaire benefactor (and foster father) Bruce Wayne behind and head off to fight criminals in Detroit. It doesn't exactly take a brain surgeon to weigh the evidence and deduce the truth. RELATED: Titans Reveals The First Look at Donna Troy But the reveal should also be seen as the moment when Bruce Wayne's decision to bring on a sidekick goes from being a beloved pillar of Dc Comics history, to a call so bad it's hard to imagine it didn't get both Bruce and Dick killed. After spending days playing the part of a 'normal' cop who can't offer much to their team, Dick Grayson at least partially embraces his true power and personal history, confirming to these new friends that they walk in the midst of Robin himself, the Batman's most trusted partner. The moment that Dick Grayson makes his heroic debut appearance atop a parked car plays as something of a 'coming out' moment for the Titans cast as a whole. And probably fairly discussed, considering who adopted him.Įvery Titan Should Know Batman is Bruce Wayne But as Dick makes throwaway references to the "other circus" that provided him with his Porsche, the fact remains: Dick's connection to Bruce Wayne is a matter of public record. ![]() Granted, this version is all they know, without any insight into what Bruce's endgame really was. It's important for fans to remember that as they watch Dick's path to Bruce unfold in flashbacks - from Bruce offering help at the circus, to expressing his desire to be a foster parent to Dick directly to his social worker - we're seeing that story that the world knows. Instead, he's operating as plain old Dick Grayson, a detective in the Detroit Police Department, and the orphaned son of a circus family who died in a terrible accident. When the events of Titans begin, not only has Dick Grayson managed to keep his superhero identity a secret, but it's been months since he even thought about putting on the uniform. ![]()
